Do you recognize this signature?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Below is the signature of the Royal Mail worker that illegally signed for an item of mail that I recently posted by special delivery (see my post below). If you recognize this signature maybe we can find out who at the East Dulwich postal depot is responsible for defrauding me and making a mockery of our postal system in the UK. royaL SCAM

A right Royal Mail scam?

The Royal Mail; supposedly the postal system which the rest of the world is in envy of. For hundreds of years England and the rest of the United Kingdom have relied upon the Royal Mail to deliver important letters, if it was good enough for King Henry VIII then it’s good enough for me, or so I thought.

So what has changed?

I’m sure most of you will already know about the flagship Special Delivery service from Royal Mail which guarantees that the item you send will arrive the next day, it costs quite a few pounds but if you want something delivered quickly then it’s great. Of course things go wrong and sometimes the item doesn’t arrive on schedule, fair enough – shit happens, I understand that. This time however I found out about a dark side of the Royal Mail that I had never seen before and I want to let you know about my experiences.

Well recently I sent an item using Special Delivery and a few days later a disgruntled eBay asked if I had sent the item or not yet. So I tracked the item and sure enough the Royal Mail website confirmed it has been delivered and they even had a lovely digital signature from the recipient. But hold on, didn’t the recipient say that it hadn’t arrived? Well yes he did, and then he went on to say that he was at home all day and definitely didn’t sign for any item. Puzzled we agreed that he’d wait 24 hours to see what happened, perhaps a neighbour had signed for it but then not taken it around.

What happens next in this tale? Well the item arrives the very next morning and the concerned buyer asks the postman why the item had already been stated as delivered and signed for? This is what was sent to me by the buyer and I have no reason to doubt the claims made.

“Panic over it dropped through the letter box this morning,No signature!,I grabbed the postie and asked why it showed on tracking as being delivered and signed for yesterday,he said it’s all to do with meeting targets,as it was a bank holiday monday being delivery today would have failed the two business day target….Great stuff!”

So what does this actually mean?

For starters it means a Royal Mail employee illegally signed for the item’s delivery. Firstly the effect of this meant that they did not have to refund me money for the late delivery that would have been due. Secondly if the item had been subsequently lost in transit both the sender (myself) and the recipient would have had no recourse and the Royal Mail would have simply said, ‘the item has been delivered’ and not investigated a claim of lost mail. Thirdly if this is really about meeting targets then this shows that the Royal Mail will do anything not to lose their reputation, would they deliberately lose my mail if it meant their targets would look better? I’m starting to think that they might.

I have sent a complaint to the Royal Mail customer services department and will post an update if and when I hear back.

I am so disappointed for this to come to light and am now considering if I should use a different postal company altogether in future because I don’t think I can trust Royal Mail anymore. I’d be really interested if anyone else has had the same experiences of this right Royal Mail scam.

This blog now available on the Amazon Kindle!

RGKJINDLE
I’ve been very interested in Amazon’s Kindle device since it first launched a couple of years ago. It’s not only an E-Book reader but has a built in modem that allows it to go online to the Amazon store and selected websites. I noticed that there were many free blogs available for subscription for the device and thought I would apply to get this blog available for the Kindle too. To my surprise it has been accepted and Amazon have listed it at a $1.99 price tag (content providers have no control over pricing).

Amazon pass on 30% of the selling price to the content creator which might not sound like a great deal, it typically costs me nothing to create my content so anything is profit. But in the end I’m not really in this for the money, however I’m quite interested to see if any Kindle users do check me out.

So whilst I’m terribly excited that Kindle Owners can subscribe to me direct from their Kindle and have my blog with them 24 hours a day, I do wonder if I need to add more stuff to make it worth while – especially if they have to pay.

I’d be interested in hearing from anyone with Kindle experience both on the hardware side as well as producing content for it.

You can take a look at my Amazon store page here.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Trailer

I got a very kind email asking for me to host this trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter video game. Had a problem hosting it myself so got it off YouTube instead. I must say it’s looking pretty cool.

5 circumstances where Russ Greeno would murder you

Monday, June 15th, 2009

When it comes down to it Russ Greeno is a fairly easy going and polite chap. If he had any friends they’d probably back this up with stories of kindness, generosity and other happy examples of Russ being lovely. However just like Bruce Banner; Russ Greeno can turn totally insane if something makes him angry. So here just for you are the 5 things which you should avoid doing in Russ’ direction to avoid his wrath.

5

5)  Talking loudly.

4

4) Dropping litter.

3

3) Putting your fingerprints on monitor screens.

2

2) Scratching CD’s and DVD’s.

1

1) Leaving your supermarket trolley in the way.

My top 5 highlights of Windows 7

Windows 7

Windows 7

Unlike many people I actually was very happy with Windows Vista and after using it for almost three years found it a very nice operating system to use everyday.  Now I’ve had time to play with Windows 7 RC1 for a few weeks I’m very pleased to say that it I really like it.  Whilst Windows 7 looks and feels like Vista I have really noticed a real boost in responsiveness and an overall more comfortable user experience when using Windows 7 as my main OS.  With all that said and done here are my top five highlights of Windows 7:

  1. It’s free to download from Microsoft until the end of June.
  2. Frame rate performance gains in 3D gaming.
  3. More responsive when opening, closing, minimizing and maximizing programs.
  4. A clean install takes less than15 minutes.
  5. Booting to a fully loaded desktop is noticeably quicker.
