Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Review – Nintendo DS

Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics DS ScreenshotAs you’d expect from the title you take control of Mario and Sonic; however it’s not all about Speed Skating and gold medals here. If you’d have thought something as giant and complex as the Winter Olympic Games could go without a hitch then you’re a dummy because if you think about it just for a moment then you’d realise that there is just so much that can go wrong. In this instance though what goes wrong isn’t quite what you or I would have expected. Rather than the typical type of things like Olympic Athletes being struck down by food poisoning or being suspected of drug misuse, in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games things are much worse. Who else but the evil Dr Eggman and Bowser have decided to cause trouble.

Mario and Sonic OlympicsEven though Mario and Sonic have been the best of buddies for over a year now it still doesn’t sit right with me somehow. virtuaFor reference the last tennis game I played most recently was Sega Superstars Tennis for Wii and whilst it was fun it neither managed to recapture the initial fun of Wii Sports Tennis nor the typical Nintendo charm found in Mario Tennis. As much as I like Sonic and his friends they just don’t have the same level of personality as Mario and his pals do but maybe I’m just being a biased Nintendo fanboy. Anyway I digress.

Sonic and the Black Knight Review – Wii

Monday, April 27th, 2009

sonicvoverIf you were a gamer during the 1990’s you can’t have escaped the Mario vs Sonic war that Sega and Nintendo were locked into. Of course Mario and Sonic are best buddies now and their warring ways a well behind them; face it they’re both too old and too busy with new games to star in. Without going into the complete history of Sonic’s demise (that will have to wait for another day) let’s just say that Sega didn’t quite give him the full support he needed when it came to his games on the Saturn and Dreamcast.
